Suspected militants carried out a bomb attack at a residential area in Moirang, Bishnupur, killing an elderly man and injuring five others.
The Manipur government on Friday announced closure of schools on September 7 in view of the unrest triggered by bomb attack in Bishnupur district.
According to a notice issued by the Education Bureau (Schools), for the safety of students and teachers, all schools in the state will continue to be closed on September 7.
“In view of the riots and the prevailing situation in the state, and taking into account the safety of students and teachers, all public and private schools and central schools will be closed on September 7,” the notice said.
Suspected militants carried out a bomb attack at a residential area in Moirang in Bishnupur district on Friday afternoon, killing an elderly man and injuring five others, an official said.
The rocket that landed at the residence of former chief minister Myrumbam Curran appeared to be improvised.
It was the second rocket launched in the area on Friday.
“The old man was preparing for some religious rituals in the yard when the bomb exploded. He died on the spot,” the official added.
Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee for Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a consortium of civil bodies in the valley, declared a “public emergency” in five districts of the Imphal Valley with immediate effect.
