A Dallas energy company has filed a lawsuit against Greenpeace, threatening to bankrupt the U.S. arm of the environmental group that has long opposed fossil fuel interests.
Dallas pipeline company Energy Transfer is suing several Greenpeace International entities for $300 million in damages related to the 2016 protests surrounding construction of the nearly 1,200-mile Dakota Access Pipeline.
Greenpeace US said in a June article on its website that losing the case “could result in Greenpeace being sidelined in the fight for climate justice.” wall street journal The lawsuit puts the environmental group's U.S. arm at risk of bankruptcy but may not affect Amsterdam-based Greenpeace's international operations, according to reports on Sunday.

Let us hope that the courts expedite hearings of alleged violations and treat them as a priority, and that any correction of any wrongs by the courts will be a lesson to those who believe that the law and respect for the rights of others do not apply to them.
