ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The auto industry is big business in Michigan, and a round of major layoffs is bringing the election campaign into high gear for industry workers in the key battleground state — who blame the Biden-Harris administration’s push for electric vehicles severe crackdown.

Stellantis, which makes Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles, announced last month it would lay off 2,450 workers at its Warren plant. Even though the state's industrial jobs have been declining since 1990, Michigan's autoworkers explained to The Washington Post why the Biden team's green energy rules went awry this time.

Isaiah Gordon, a 24-year-old UAW member who works on hybrid batteries at Ford's Rosenville plant, said the forced shift to electric vehicles is hurting the industry.

according to @A1 policythese directives could eliminate 123,000 auto manufacturing jobs. But a total ban on gasoline-powered and hybrid vehicles could see job losses soar to 191,000. 💼❌https://t.co/R3HvtOOyua 2/6
