Hurricane Helen is the deadliest storm in the United States since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005.
Asheville, North Carolina, suffered massive damage from the storm, leaving thousands homeless and hundreds of thousands without power across western North Carolina
Officials said the death toll could also rise as dozens of people are believed to be missing as floodwaters pass through communities in the storm's path.
Additionally, more than 200,000 people in western North Carolina are still without power, according to Duke Energy, the region's electric utility.
