Conclusion: Wrong. Rep. Slotkin voted in support of the Biden-Harris administration's aggressive electric vehicle mandate to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles.
Slotkin claimed during a WXYZ-sponsored debate with former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) that she doesn't “care what kind of cars Michiganders drive.”
However, Slotkin has repeatedly voted for electric vehicle mandates or against measures that would have prevented states from installing electric vehicles.
As recently as September, Slotkin voted against legislation that would have repealed a Biden-Harris administration rule that would have required most new cars sold in the U.S. to be hybrid or electric by 2032.
Additionally, Slotkin voted against a bill in September 2023 that would have prevented states from limiting the number of gasoline-powered vehicles sold.
The vote comes amid a UAW strike driven by the Democratic push for electric vehicles.
Rogers on Monday night accused Slotkin of making false claims, saying she “voted for an electric vehicle mandate at least three times and doubled down on her position on an electric vehicle mandate as early as about four weeks ago.”“
“I'm telling you, it's destroying our auto industry. Five thousand auto dealers wrote an open letter to the Biden administration and said: 'You're killing the auto industry. 'Please stop enforcing the electric vehicle mandate,'” he added.
Slotkin cemented her lies in her rebuttal.
“There is no electric vehicle mandate. I don't care what you want to drive. It doesn't matter to me,” she claimed.
