Just after midday on Monday, the National Energy System Operator (Neso) issued a surprise capacity market notice, warning UK generators.
It told generators to prepare for peak demand at 4:30 p.m. There are concerns that spare power capacity is unacceptably small compared to demand.

A spokesman for Neso insisted it was “confident that tonight's power margins are sufficient” and stressed that the initial notification was triggered automatically.

A bioenergy resource model released in late summer calculated that the UK's plans to reach net zero emissions would only be met by a significant increase in imports of energy crops and wood from a surprising range of countries.
The Sunak government said in a strategy paper published last year that it wanted biomass to play an “important role” in decarbonizing all sectors of the economy in the years to 2050 since the New Labor government seemed to adopt it. Over two decades, more than £20 billion of funding has been provided to businesses using the technology in the power and heat industries.

Of course, North Korea's firewood is only needed to keep the lights on when the flywheel stops spinning.
My advice is, if even the Guardian calls your net zero plans “crazy”, it might be time to reconsider. Or maybe the new energy minister.
