Data released by the Biden-Harris administration on Oct. 17 shows that a push to electrify everything will increase costs for American households, contradicting one of the White House's favorite selling points for the green agenda, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation. The Biden-Harris administration has made cracking down on residential fossil fuel consumption a key aspect of its environmental strategy, justifying the measure in part because electrification will lower energy costs.

Now, Department of Energy (DOE) residential energy price data for October 17 show By 2024, electricity will be about four times more expensive than natural gasexperts told DCNF The White House’s push for electrification is an example of how extreme climate policies are harming average Americans.

“The Department of Energy has consistently stated that natural gas is a much cheaper energy source than electricity for households,” Daren Bakst, director of the Center for Energy and the Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, told DCNF.

“Government policies that seek to discourage natural gas use in favor of electricity will significantly drive up prices, making home heating and appliance use unnecessarily expensive. The poor will be hurt the most because they spend more of their household income than higher-income households. A large portion is used to meet basic needs, such as heating in the winter.

The Biden-Harris Department of Energy issues a series of rules restricting the use of gas appliances, including revised stove standards in September 2023, Prohibit the use of 40-60% of gas stoves in householdsas well as increasing water heater efficiency requirements, which the agency claims will save U.S. consumers $11.4 billion annually on energy and water bills.

Data from October 17 shows that electricity is significantly more expensive than fossil fuelspriced at $47.36 per million British thermal units (BTU), while natural gas and propane are priced at $13.38 and $33.59 per million BTU, respectively.

So, according to the Biden-Harris administration, Switching from gas to electric appliances could increase utility costs by more than 3.5 timesin addition to increased installation costs.

“One of the most aggressive bait-and-switch moves by officials in Washington, D.C. and coastal enclaves is to mandate that everyone, everywhere, use appliances, Even though natural gas is usually very cheapr,” OH Skinner, executive director of Consumers Union and former Arizona deputy attorney general, told DCNF.

“Officials argue that banning the use of gas stoves, stoves or other gas appliances will save energy costs, but at the same time, they have evidence that natural gas is cheaper…It’s time for officials in Washington, D.C., to stop trying to micromanage people’s lives and give everyone a one-size-fits-all approach to their homes.

Energy sector expert Robert Bryce blames Biden-Harris administration The release of price data on October 3 was deliberately delayed on the grounds that the Energy Department had not released this information later than August since at least 2011.

At the time – two weeks before the data was released – he predicted The agency has been stalling because the cost figures would reflect the high cost of electricity relative to fossil fuelswhich has been proven to be accurate.
