According to the National Weather Service, the Baltimore area received a little more than a third of an inch of rain on October 1 and 2, and no precipitation has been measured since. The Baltimore area typically receives about 3.5 inches of rain in October, according to the weather service.
Dry weather continued through September, with the Baltimore area receiving a little more than 2 inches of rain, down from an average of nearly 4.5 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
About three-quarters of Baltimore City and County are “abnormally dry” but not in drought, according to federal data.

Monday morning is expected to be cold throughout Baltimore and across the state.
The weather service issued a frost warning and ice warning for much of Maryland from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. as temperatures in the 20s and 30s could kill crops and damage unprotected outdoor pipes.
Temperatures around Baltimore are expected to rise to 62 degrees in the afternoon and fall back to the 40s at night.
High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-60s on Tuesday with sunny skies, dipping into the 50s overnight.
Wednesday afternoon is expected to be sunny with high temperatures rising into the mid-70s before dipping into the mid-50s overnight.
Warm weather is expected for Halloween Thursday, with afternoon highs around 80 degrees and nighttime temperatures staying in the low 60s.
Rain chances returned to forecast early Friday morning, the first day of November, when there was a 40% chance of rain between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m., falling to 30 percent on Friday afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to top 70 degrees on Friday before dipping into the 40s overnight.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mostly sunny with temperatures in the mid-60s.
