    Missouri town forced to evacuate after fire at electric vehicle battery recycling plant

    Lithium battery catches fire

    A fire broke out at a battery recycling plant near a small town in southeast Missouri, forcing residents to evacuate. [emphasis, links added]

    one fox news A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at the Critical Minerals Recycling Center in Fredericktown, Missouri, sending toxic smoke spreading miles north of the town, affiliate reports.

    An emergency evacuation order was posted on the Madison County Emergency Services Facebook page on Wednesday.

    “According to Madison County [Sheriff’s] Everyone north and northwest of Village Creek Road and the 217 Madison office needs to evacuate immediately! the post states.

    A modeled map posted on the Frederictown Fire Department Facebook page shows Thick smoke stretched more than a dozen miles north of the town, which has fewer than 4,500 residents.

    The department warned citizens not in evacuation zones to shelter indoors, close windows and turn off air conditioning systems.

    As of Thursday morning, the department had not posted further updates on its social media pages.

    according to missouri independent, The plant is one of the largest lithium-ion battery recycling plants in the world.

    The company's website, which was down on Thursday morning, claimed the facility had “the world's most advanced automated remote supervision and control fire suppression system.”
