Biden administration's 'climate envoy' John Kerry claims the US is “on the verge of needing to declare a climate emergency”. [emphasis, links added]
Asked last week at a forum hosted by Harvard's Kennedy School Institute of Politics “what should people do” who care about climate and the future, Kerry said people need to “start paying attention” to the following arguments: With President-elect Donald Trump ·Consistent with Trump’s transition.
Kerry added that “seven million people” die every year due to poor air quality.
Kerry added that the United States needs to “restart caring” about what is happening “in other parts of the world.”
“I personally think we are on the verge of needing to declare a climate emergency and that's really what we're facing,” Kerry said. “And we need to get people to act as if this is really a major transformational challenge for the entire planet, for everyone.”
Kerry said “African people” without electricity need to choose the right kind of electricity. He added that the United States “needs to help them afford it.”

“We have the largest economy in the world – a $24 trillion or $23 trillion economy, maybe more now,” Kerry added.
“The next closest is China, at about $18 trillion. The next closest to either of us is Germany and Japan, at $4 trillion. That's how far it goes. Don't you think we have some kind of obligation to be responsible for this? I think we did it.“
In January, it was reported that Kerry would step down as the U.S. climate envoy to work on President Joe Biden's re-election campaign.
The White House has chosen John Podesta to succeed Kerry as the U.S. climate envoy.
