“Climate exaggeration and extremism are both unpopular, and the public will lash out at any social disruption by the Climate Church.”
Michael Mezzatesta, a self-described “economic and climate educator… who shares ideas for a better future,” urged the fragmented and failing climate movement to regroup and up the ante.
“The silver lining of this election outcome is that America's progressive resistance is about to get a major boost,” he posted on social media. “I predict that this is going to be a big four years for progressive organizing and the labor movement, and it’s going to be a big four years for the climate movement.”
I seriously doubt this. But wishful thinking to save false, futile, wasteful causes (where the real problems first arise with voters) is pervasive. He continued:
By the next election, I believe the climate movement will become a major political force in American politics as the Trump administration’s anti-climate policies will inspire millions of people to join the climate cause. I predict we will see unprecedented mass protests and mobilizations.
So if you are a progressive or someone who cares about the climate, please take some time to grieve. But when you are ready, I hope you will channel your anger and frustration into joining these resistance movements…because if we start now, by the time another election comes around, we will have so much power!
He mentioned that “you can start in three places”:
1. The Sunrise Movement is a massive coalition of young people fighting to stop the climate crisis and win a Green New Deal. They have local chapters all over the country, and they're ready for those of us to join. (I just participated in their post-election call, which was great.)
2. The Working Families Party is organizing checks and balances on the moneyed interests of the Democratic and Republican parties. They train young, progressive working-class people to run for office and get elected. (More than 100,000 people have joined their post-election appeal.)
3. Climate Challenge is a climate activist group that uses direct action to disrupt the lives of powerful politicians and leaders, forcing them to treat the climate crisis like a pressing issue. They are very aggressive and there are some risks with their tactics, but we need them now more than ever. Anyway, I've met them and they are great people! Follow these organizations and, if you can, attend their upcoming events. I can tell you that it helps to be around other people who care about you right now and it will remind you that you are not alone in this battle.

Neither climate exaggeration nor extremism is welcome, and the public will lash out at any act of social destruction by the Climate Church. Regarding hyperbole, climate alarmist Michael Mann breaks away from Extinction Rebellion and Scientist Rebellion (“performative attention whores”), warning:
Trending opinions, hyperbole, and polarizing comments generate the most clicks, shares, and retweets. I often encounter, especially on social media, people who believe that recent extreme weather events are proof that the climate crisis is much worse than we thought…. We see this more and more with climate doomsdayers today… This is not true, or at best, a partial truth.
On extremism, Mann laments
The damage caused by deeply misguided individuals who appear to be on the side of climate action in principle but in practice divide communities and engage in the agenda of forces of inaction.
Green is hard.
