Reuters claims to have seen documents from President-elect Trump's transition team in which federal support for electric vehicles and charging stations is called into question. [emphasis, links added]
The document also recommends Impose tariffs on battery materials to boost U.S. production 'then negotiate individual exemptions with allies' Reuters said.
The plan would redirect remaining funds from President Biden's $7.5 billion charging station plan toward battery mineral processing and “defense supply chains and critical infrastructure,” as Electric vehicles and charging stations 'not important for defense production' The report quoted the document as saying.
The transition team also called for a return to 2019 emissions and fuel economy standard levelsallowing emissions per vehicle mile to increase by approximately 25% over the 2025 limit and fuel economy to decrease by 15% and prevent California from enacting stricter standards.Reuters stated that Biden overturned Trump’s policies.
Trump transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt did not dispute the report, telling Reuters, Trump is fulfilling his voter mandate and will “support the auto industry and provide space for gasoline-powered vehicles and electric vehicles.”
