The 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference concluded recently in Baku, Azerbaijan. This summit can be summed up in one sentence: Orange is cheating.
The election of former President Donald Trump just days before the start of the Conference of the Parties, known as COP29, had a profound impact on any potential success of the summit. The Times of London wrote, “The wind follows [COP29’s] It all started before climate skeptic Donald Trump was elected in the US”
The frustration among COP29 attendees was palpable. With the exception of new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, no major Western leader is willing to attend Baku.
“A complete waste of time”
The sinking Pacific island nation is said to be unable to even muster enthusiasm for COP29 as Papua New Guinea boycotts the conference, calling it “a complete waste of time”.
France boycotts participation in COP29. According to Politico, “The withdrawal of the French climate minister means that Paris will not send any senior political representatives to Baku, and French President Emmanuel Macron will also miss the event.” Ouch!
Oil is “a gift from God”
Things will get better. After Argentine President Javier Milei held talks with Trump, Argentina withdrew its negotiators from the summit. This can only be described as the “Trump effect.” The entire Argentine team was ordered to go home.
“We have received instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to participate anymore,” Argentina's top environmental official told the Guardian.
There is more.
On the opening day of the United Nations climate summit, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared oil a “gift from God” and said people needed it. As you can imagine, Mr Aliyev's invocation of God to defend the use of oil angered and demoralized COP29 attendees.
The BBC reported on the oil mess, noting in the headline: “UN climate talks 'no longer fit for purpose', leading expert says.”
UN officials are furious – United Nations
According to the BBC, the former UN secretary-general, former UN climate chief and other UN supporters said in an open letter that the COP process needs “urgent reform”. A former UN official demanded that “if countries do not support the phasing out of fossil energy, they should not host the talks.”
Former Vice President Al Gore agreed, saying: “I think there should be a test of who qualifies as a delegate to these conferences of the parties. Are they here to seek solutions, or are they here to prevent solutions?
In other words, censor and ban any country that opposes the UN agenda in any way from participating in the UN climate process. They seem to want to host the UN Climate Summit like a “woke” social media platform.
“The Worst UN Climate Summit”!
COP29 was originally called the COP Financial Summit. An initial $100 billion per year climate slush fund commitment was increased to $300 billion per year. But no one seems happy about these “promises.”
The Times of London reported that the summit was a complete failure. “COP29 has been described by senior negotiators as the worst UN climate summit they have ever experienced.”
Here’s another CNN scoop: “Climate activists describe COP29 as ‘an insult, a joke and a betrayal. … A chaotic meeting.
fake dead whale
One final oddity: COP29 featured a dead fake whale made of what appeared to be petroleum products on display in central Baku. The fake whale carcass is set against the background of a COP29 neon message on a building, complete with a windmill. To be clear, the climate activists who sponsored the stunt believe climate change poses a threat to whales and that windmills will somehow save them.
Ironically, whale deaths have increased dramatically since offshore winds increased rapidly.
As with every U.N. climate summit, many studies are scheduled to be released in the weeks or days leading up to the meeting to best reflect the alleged importance of the U.N. mission. This year’s study is quite humorous. A study in The Lancet claims “Climate change is causing sleep deprivation.”
Not to be outdone, a study published in the peer-reviewed journal Environment, Development & Sustainability claims that “climate change is encouraging disadvantaged communities to adopt unhygienic toilet habits.” How about that? “Climate change is making toilets more likely to break, which makes people more likely to 'walk out'.”
Remember: Never question “science”!
Meat tax for you
Key speeches were delivered at the conference, calling for meat rationing and a global “meat tax” to limit “dairy emissions”. William Blanton of the Alliance for Real Animal Protein Prices called for a meat tax “so that we can make up for the losses from past consumption of meat and animal protein.”
As delegates feasted on beef, chicken and hot dogs in COP29 restaurants and food courts, the United Nations was awash in meat hypocrisy.
As Trump prepares to return to the White House, we must remember: The failure of the UN climate summit is good news for humanity!
