    Transcript:

Many young people are eager to help the environment, from fighting climate change to protecting endangered species.

But turning that passion into a career can be difficult, especially if you don't know anyone else working in the environmental field or lack the resources to obtain professional training.

Castellino: “We work with a lot of newcomers and immigrants, and their families tell them, you know, look, we need to make ends meet…so they don't necessarily have that option,” I wanted to work in a sustainable business. A career that continues to grow.

Lauren Castelino is the founder of the Green Careers Centre, which helps women, immigrants and people of color in Canada start environmental careers.

It provides an online tool that matches people with wage subsidy programs offered by the Canadian government and other groups.

These programs make it easier for employers to hire and train new staff and help young people gain paid work experience in the environmental sector.

The group also hosts networking events, posts job listings, and helps people find training in new skills.

Thousands of people have already used their resources, Castellino said.

Castelino: “It’s so inspiring to see and hear all the stories of people who have been part of our work and been able to succeed and build their careers in Canada.”

Only 28% of U.S. residents regularly hear about climate change in the media, but 77% want to know more. By 2025, you can show Americans more climate news.
