Examining the carbon emissions and habitat destruction caused by policies based on virtue signaling and pseudoscience.

    Posted by Leslie Eastman

The steady stream of news about the Los Angeles fires is heartbreaking and the images are heart-wrenching.

When the smoke clears and recovery begins, I hope that not only will the insidious “diversity-equity-inclusion” policies that have led to incompetent leadership in key civic positions be abandoned… but that the “climate crisis” policies will be ended quickly.

First, our elite media continues to press the “consensus” that the fires are a direct result of “climate change.” For example, this gem comes from the Associated Press.

Millions of people across the United States shivered in blizzards and frigid air for days at first, thanks to the jet stream's recent deviation from its usual path more frequently. Then disaster struck in California, as wind-swept flames soared over a landscape that had been dry for months and became the worst wildfire ever seen in Los Angeles.

Finally, major weather monitoring agencies have confirmed that 2024 will be the hottest year in global history. What's even more frightening is that four of the six agencies said this is the first time the planet has exceeded the warming threshold for a full year, which is seen as key to limiting the worst effects of climate change.

Welcome to a crazy week on the climate crisis, say scientists. There will be more.

I'm happy to report that this stupidity is being rationalized, which gives me hope that this catastrophe will take root at the heart of climate cult pseudoscience.

    actually
Problems with the Santa Ynez Reservoir, which was supposed to provide water to fight the Palisades Fire, include:

    – After only 3 hours of firefighting efforts, the reservoir quickly ran out of water.

    – The reservoir normally holds 117 million gallons of water, but… pic.twitter.com/3c26LJXcnc

Many people took to social media to report on the arson incidents in the area and the arrests of the arsonists.

I guess if the term “climate change” means that virtue-promoting eco-activists have made bad decisions, then it's probably right.

It’s not decades of partisan gridlock, failing to upgrade water collection and firefighting infrastructure, neglecting forest management, emptying reservoirs during fire season, or cutting funding for first responders. https://t.co/PkhjvkjTch

I've talked about several disastrous decisions made by local and state leaders with limited blog space. There will be a whole list of failures to analyze, and thanks to X.com, the elite media will no longer be able to protect its preferred bureaucrats.

In this article, I want to point out how all of these climate-worshiping choices are completely destroying the natural environment and wildlife habitat in the greater Los Angeles area.

First, California has been leading the charge on electric vehicle mandates and an end to the use of fossil fuels because human emissions of carbon dioxide (a life-essential trace gas found in trace amounts in the atmosphere) are said to contribute to “global warming.”

Instead of focusing on water infrastructure, revising forest management options or funding fire departments, bureaucrats are focused on nanny state rules. As a result, millions of tons of carbon dioxide equivalent are released into the atmosphere.

I want to share some numbers to illustrate this point: The 2020 California fire season released approximately 127 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.

These fires completely eliminate any saved emissions.

California's nearly two-decade effort to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide that contributes to global warming could be undone by a year of devastating wildfires, researchers from UCLA and the University of Chicago say.

The state's record-breaking fire season burned more than 4 million acres in 2020, emitting nearly as much greenhouse gas as it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions since 2003, according to a recent study published in the journal Environmental Pollution. double.

Researchers estimate that the fires released about 127 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, while a reduction of about 65 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent was lost over the past 18 years.

The Los Angeles fires are still burning, so I don't have final numbers to share with you. However, since this was an urban fire, carbon dioxide was not the only emission. The smoke contains toxic cyanide and sulfur compounds, deadly carbon monoxide and carcinogens.

So the next time California's ecology regulators want to reduce your SUV's emissions or take away your gas stove, tell them to sit down.

Another aspect of this destruction that remains to be considered is the horrific impact on wildlife. Many of the state's poor water policy choices have to do with protecting fish.

Many of the region's iconic animal species are now suffering as a result of these choices.

Stephanie Eyes, senior wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's (FWS) Sacramento Fish and Wildlife office, said if animals can't find shelter during wildfires, they'll try their best. Stay out of the direct path of fire while staying close to home.

… “Wildlife is incredibly resilient,” Ice said, noting that “California has a long history of wildfires and many species have adapted to it.”

“When I was working in Yosemite [the national park]a female California spotted owl survived several wildfires. We were always worried about her, but she would still be there, year after year,” the biologist recalled.

However, in a “highly severe fire” that has burned large swaths of forest, is moving quickly and crawling through the canopy, it can be a challenge for wildlife to find shelter.

“Wildlife has adapted to cope with smaller fires, and unfortunately, sometimes they can't escape recent fires,” Ace said.

It can be said that the Palisade and Eaton fires were “high-intensity.”

🥹 It’s not just humans fleeing the fires. A mountain lion and two cubs were seen on Topanga Canyon Blvd. Escape from the Palisades fire where hundreds of homes have been destroyed. 💔

When Americans support the Endangered Species Act, they have these species in mind… not bait fish.

As a result of these fires, many proponents of sensible climate science policy have gained insight into the reality of climate change. However, this is the first time I remember the proportion of “climate crisis” promotional posts being so large.

I hope it’s not too late to save the remaining natural beauty of this state.
