Installing solar panels is just one of many career options in the solar industry.
Solar jobs can include entry-level and senior-level positions in a variety of fields, including engineering, marketing, and construction.
Cynthia Finley is a member of the Interstate Renewable Energy Council. The organization has created free online courses and a career map to help people learn how to develop a career in solar energy.
Finlay: “We really want to provide an opportunity for job seekers and students to explore the industry.”
This online course helps people match their skills to solar jobs and find training opportunities and potential employers.
The career map explores the diversity of solar energy jobs, including details like job requirements and salaries.
Finley: “It really gives you the opportunity to dive into… all the different areas: manufacturing, system design, project development, and installation and operations.”
The map also outlines how people can advance their solar ventures.
For example, through training, a solar sales representative can advance to become a home solar designer or eventually a solar project developer.
So as the industry evolves, people with many different skill sets can find ways to build lasting careers in the clean energy economy.
