“The enemy is not Donald Trump and never has been. The enemy is nationalism. Left libertarians like David Boas and Tom Palmer are in the mood, while institutions like the left-funded, TDS-influenced, Kamala-supporting Institute for Modern Authoritarianism never get, And still haven't gotten it.
Statism and intellectual elitism took a big hit in this election. Count the reasons, like this list posted on social media.
This is economics…. Immigration chaos…rampant spending fueling inflation…green energy idiots…electric everything demands…the anti-Americanism of the left. Men compete in women's sports. Children in transition.
Threats and obstruction of the Supreme Court. law. Government greed. Repressive lockdowns have caused lasting damage to a generation of children. Abandoning merit in favor of identity politics. Foreign policy follies like the Afghanistan fiasco and giving billions of dollars to Iran.and promises to spend lavishly. TDS is unreasonable or excessive. Anti-Semitism is rampant. A public education system that is disastrous for children. The selection of Tim Walz over Josh Shapiro as Harris’ running mate is highly questionable and telling.
Deep state. Blatant lies. An open disdain for ordinary Americans. Outright paranoia. Big Tech colludes. Censorship, Suppression and the Ministry of Truth. The “coup” that brought Harris to power.
Harris is absolutely terrible. Unqualified, unable to answer off-the-cuff questions, lacking any record showing she was ready for the presidency, indecisive, deceitful, disrespectful, evasive, and apparently only capable of producing word salad.
losing left politics
Brett Stephens issues warning to left ahead of election new york times Editorial, “If Donald Trump wins, there's one culprit” (October 22, 2024). He identified “the ways in which leading liberal voices in government, academia and the media practice politics today” and listed seven issue areas:
the politics of condescension… The politics of name-calling… The politics of gaslighting… Repressive politics.… Pollyannaish politics… A politics of selective loyalty to traditional norms.… The politics of identity over class.
Stephens's post-election editorial “Trump No More” continued his pre-election analysis (December 17, 2024):
Is it time to abandon the heavy preaching and constant doomsday rhetoric that characterizes the Never Trump movement—which makes the movement politically impotent and often obtuse? Yes please. But Trumpers also exaggerate our case, and in doing so defeat our purpose.
Stephens continued:
So here’s a thought for longtime Trump critics, including those of us on the right: Let’s spend the new year wishing the new administration well, giving some in the Trump cabinet the benefit of the doubt, and giving up on Horrible historical comparisons from the past. Whatever happens, this too shall pass.
Final comments
It's all true. The enemy is not Donald Trump and never has been. The enemy is nationalism. Left-libertarians like David Boas and Tom Palmer are agitated, while left-wing-funded, TDS-influenced, Kamala-backed Institute for Modern Authoritarianism (The Unpopulist’s Publishers) never got it and still don't get it. [1]
In fact, the vast majority of real-world liberals and the think tanks within them are more excited about the prospect of a new administration than Democrats are on the road to slavery. The Post-Boas Cato Institute is back in the political game, offering insights and ideas on maximizing markets and freedoms and overturning statism within the Trump framework.
Tom “Trumpissmo” Palmer (his slur) blocked me on social media, so for an average, hard-working American to elect Trump (for good reason) and hope not For a world affected by this, expect more emotion, despair and anger.
It’s a very interesting 2025!

[1] ISMA (founder Shikha Dalmia) bills itself as “a public policy organization dedicated to defending free societies and opposing the world’s slide into illiberalism” (whatever that means). UpPopulist (Substack) describes itself as “a publication dedicated to defending liberal democracy against new forms of authoritarianism in the United States and around the world.” It considers Trump the “far right” but does not consider Biden-Harris and radical progressivism as the far left. Very strange…
I was banned from the non-populist comments section (“the user was suspended indefinitely for this comment”) because I challenged Tom Palmer, co-author of the far-right interpretation: Your Comprehensive Guide to the Far Right: Part One.
Tom Palmer should be writing a similar article on the far left right now. Words like authoritarianism and fascism apply. An op-ed in today's New York Times sees this as a potential reason for Trump's victory over Harris:
“The politics of name-calling happens every time Trump voters are told they are racists, misogynists, weirdos, fear-mongers, ill-informed people, or, most recently, supporters of fascists — Moreover, what kind of voters would win support from being called a fascist for no reason other than being self-defeating? This is also mostly wrong for Trump supporters. The Den-Harris period is bad for them and the country. Maybe liberals should try to engage in debate without being demeaning.
Enough said. replacement time Emotionalism Scholarship and Trump advocates totalitarianism.
