According to the National Weather Service, the weather is expected to warm further early next week, with cloudy skies on Sunday with a high around 44 degrees, a high of 43 degrees on Monday, 48 degrees on Tuesday and 48 degrees on Wednesday. There is precipitation. However, nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to drop below 30 during these days.
The high temperature is expected to reach 52 degrees on Wednesday with mostly sunny skies.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Brendon Rubin-Oster said this was a significant break from recent temperatures that have been between 10 and 20 degrees below average.
“We're not breaking any daily records,” Rubin-Oster said Wednesday of the early-week cold, “but it's certainly going to keep temperatures well below normal.”
Resources and emergency services for homeless activated amid freezing cold
A body was removed from a burning vacant house on North Main Street after a code blue went into effect Sunday night.
As happened earlier this month, this latest cold snap comes from disruptions in the polar vortex, the ring of cold air that normally traps the Arctic.
