It is understood that the Energy Minister will support Drax and other biomass operators and make a decision as early as Monday.
Environmentalists are likely to see ongoing support for biomass fuels, a betrayal of Labor's commitment to focus on clean energy.
Mr Miliband is a major advocate of the government's net zero, but is still expected to use wood burning as a primary energy source due to concerns. Without the UK's largest power plants, including locations such as Drax, headquartered in North Yorkshire, the UK may not be able to keep light.
Drax power plant is a biomass plant that generates electricity by burning wood. Biomass produces more than 10% of UK electricity, which is classified as carbon neutral because trees can be planted in place of burning fuel, while new trees absorb carbon during their growth.
However, the power supply is considered controversial because it still produces emissions immediately and is accused of indoctrinating deforestation.
Drax is accused of cutting down forests in North America to keep Britain running.
Many existing subsidy regimes for existing biomass are scheduled to end in 2027 Threat the ability of generators to invest in their power plants and could damage the critical source of basic power sources in the grid – Stable supply without relying on intermittent sources such as the sun and wind.
It will soon be necessary to decide whether to continue to provide taxpayer support. The National Audit Office (NAO) said last month that Drax has received £6.5 billion in subsidies from the government since 2002.
