According to Hanson, the 2.0c climate target has died.
Famous climate scientist says climate change targets “death”
Professor James Hansen said that although other scientists disagree, the speed of global heating is greatly underestimated

James Hansen, a well-known climate scientist, said the global heating rate was greatly underestimated, saying the international 2C target was “death”.
…
“Intergovernmental climate change (IPPC) defines a scenario that has a 50% chance of staying warm under 2C – now it's impossible,” he said. “The 2C target is dead because global energy use is rising, And it will continue to rise.”
Global heating could reach 2C by 2045 unless solar geoengineering is deployed, new analysis says.
…
In the new study, published in the Journal of Environment: Science and Policy for Sustainable Development, Hansen's team said: “The failure to be realistic in climate assessments, the failure to declare the relentlessness of current policies has caused the deterrence of global warming. There is nothing to do, and it will be of no use to young people.”
…
“The basic problem is that fossil fuel waste is still dumped in the air for free,” he said, also supporting the rapid development of nuclear power.
…
“We do not recommend climate interventions, but we recommend not banning young people from understanding the potential and limitations of purposeful global cooling in their toolboxes,” he said.
Hanson said political change is needed to achieve all these measures: “Special interests hold too much power in our political system. In a democratic country, power should be about voters, not with rich people. This requires solving some democratic countries, including the United States.transparent

Even if voters choose to use that voting right in a way that James Hansen disapproved, there is a lot of evidence that has power in the United States. Kamala Harris essentially surpassed President Trump in the recent presidential election, but voters still chose President Trump. Obviously, money is not everything, at least in terms of our elections.
I won't lose any sleep because of James Hansen's climate apocalypse predictions. In the above article, many of Hanson's former colleagues kept a distance from his latest outbreak – for good reason.
James Hansen has made many predictions over the years, and it turns out that is inaccurate.
1986: Global temperatures are expected to increase by 3 or 4 degrees sometime between 2010 and 2020
1988: Global warming will cause drought
2001: The west side road will be underwater within 30 years
2008: In five to ten years, the Arctic will not see ice in the summer
ETC.
Of course, even among climate alarms, there will always be someone who is better determined
Interestingly, even Hanson's enthusiasm for reducing carbon dioxide seems to have limitations. Wuwt once provided a joint platform with Hansen to support research on nuclear reactors. But Hansen was quiet and did not respond to our proposal.
But I'm worried about Hanson's repeated attacks on democracy.
Hansen has moments of glory, although today even Hansen's colleagues are politely distanced from his extreme predictions. But Hansen still has some impact.
I believe Hanson's attack on democracy could cause damage. In today's turbulent times, Hansen's words will affect more young people joining radical environmental movements. Hanson calls on young people and may still have the right to influence the climate extremism that young people embrace him.
If even a young man is influenced by Hanson's horror remarks and therefore decides to abandon his future by committing futile ecological terror, it is a waste and tragedy, even already.
I'm not accusing James Hanson of deliberately inciting ecoterrorism. But if you tell a group of young people that the system has broken down, the world they will inherit will be a dystopian hell, and don't be surprised if some of them decide to try to take things into their own hands.
