As the U.S. expands its network of electric vehicle charging stations, there is a growing demand for workers who know how to maintain the technology and quickly solve problems when the charger stops working.
Terry: “One of the first things I want to do is help build a workforce that these people can even understand how to break things like this.”
Kameale Terry is the co-founder and CEO of Chargerhelp. Her company provides EV charger maintenance and repair services. It runs training programs to prepare people for the profession in this profession.
Participants learned about electric vehicles and batteries, how to maintain and repair charging equipment, and how to diagnose technical issues.
She said some people transitioned to this job and had previously worked as maintenance or repair technicians in other industries. But she said it was not necessary.
Terry: “We do like people with previous experience in field service, but personally, some of my best technicians have never actually had any experience in field service, they are more gritty and they have Prove yourself as some of these best troubleshooting for our employees.”
Their expertise will help ensure that the EV charger is up and running when people need it.
