There is a single standard to fire “probation workers”…

If you are a trial employee, you can “get fired at any time during the trial.” That's how trial hire works. If your job has been eliminated, you will no longer be the “right person to work”.
Now, let's go back to the “Trump Tracker”…

Indoor sector, layoffs shock new scientists, hoping to have a safe service career
When the Trump administration released a wave of shooting at a U.S. research institute today, it was mainly aimed at trial workers. Scienceinsider Two scientists at a U.S. agency at the U.S. Department of the Interior spoke with them and they were losing their jobs. A postdoctoral fellow who started his position at the U.S. Geological Survey last year received a call today at the U.S. Center director telling them they will be fired at the end of the day. “He broke the news and wanted to do it himself,” they said. Ecologists said it was a shock, but not entirely unexpected. They also think they are relatively lucky because their spouse is hired and does not have to relocate for their postdoctoral fellows. “I know some other off-road moves and start positions just to get news. … It’s really hard.”

Hundreds of millions of “hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts to collect information about the state of education in the United States”? Seriously? We know all we need to know about the “state of our education.” This is almost average in science and mathematics.

Why is the American Association for Scientific Development so obsessed with the reduction in the size of the federal government?
American Association for Scientific Development (AAAS)
The American Association for Scientific Development (AAAS) is a science advocacy organization based in the United States and is the largest general science association in the world. It is the publisher of diary science.
The AAAS was accused of promoting a left-leaning policy agenda and ties with former Soviet groups during the Cold War. Many of its leaders have also been criticized for supporting environmentalist policies and promoting global population control measures.
In the modern era, AAA's ideological activism has promoted participation in the promotion of left-wing “scientific activities” under the guise of promoting science. It participated in the “Science March” against President Donald Trump's election and policy.1
