House Republicans are seeking to prevent the use of taxpayers’ money to inspire what they call “green energy fools” on agricultural land, citing that subsidies could cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars over the next decade. [emphasis, links added]
Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wis).
The bill, titled the Future Agricultural Retention and Management Act (FARM), will not prevent developers from building wind turbines or solar panels, but rather End the use of federal funds to encourage such projects.
“The taxpayer’s money should not be used to sacrifice green spaces,” Tiffany told Fox News in a statement. “The Farm Act ends unreliable energy for corporate welfare and ensures that agricultural land is protected by future generations.”
Renewable subsidies for clean energy projects, such as wind and solar, could lose $424.6 billion over the next decadeAccording to the Treasury 2024-2033 analysis cited by Republican Congressmen in a press release.
The MP said his voters heard the concerns of voters who were “worrying too much farmland was taken away”, and he introduced the Farm Act, a push for more green energy projects.
If the bill passes, Tiffany hopes it will “protect family farms for generations, save American farmland, and protect long-term food security”,” The USDA report revealed In 2022, U.S. farmland fell 6.9% from 2017, down 20.1 million acres in total.
Members representing legislation include R-Va. Representing Ben Cline, Warren Davidson of R-Ohio and Roger Williams of R-Texas.
The bill comes as the Biden administration pushes to use federal funds to incentivize green energy projects, such as the USDA's Rural Energy Program, which provides grants to agricultural producers to provide large and large wind and solar production.
