Climate policy needs a more realistic approach

February 28, 20259: 59 PM GMT+10LONDON, February 27 (Reuters Breakingviews) – The pursuit of zero carbon emissions has been a huge failure. Despite trillions of dollars spent on renewable energy, hydrocarbons still account for more than 80% of the world's major energy sources and have recently increased energy consumption, according to the Energy Institute. Coal, oil and gas production is at record highs. Greenhouse gas emissions continue to exist unavoidable. Financial markets have lost confidence in the energy transition before Donald Trump returns to the White House. A more realistic approach to climate policy is urgently needed
Solar and wind power generation account for only 3.5% of original energy production. Leveling costs of renewable energy – Measures of the net present value of electricity generated in plants throughout their lives – It's down sharply over the years. But this did not result in lower electricity prices. In fact, electricity prices tend to rise as the share of energy mix provided by renewable energy rises. That's because wind and solar energy are intermittent. Since storing energy in a battery is uneconomical, traditional sources of electricity are still needed as backup, which is expensive.
Germany and the UK have obtained relatively large electricity from renewable energy, and have also suffered the highest electricity costs in the world. …

…The world still needs alternative fossil fuels. The failure of net zero shows that what the best government can do is encourage the search for viable new energy sources. Human creativity is responsible for developing fossil fuels, thereby improving material prosperity while endangering the Earth. Solving this problem depends on human creativity.

The old media should have told the truth about net zero and net a long time ago. Sadly, the author still sticks to the fantasy of the climate crisis.
Zero net failure is inevitable, and renewable energy will never become a viable alternative to dispatchable energy. Started nine years ago;
The mainstream emergence of energy typical artificial intelligence helps accelerate the decline of renewable energy.
The only remaining question is how much tax will green politicians waste to save their reputation by covering up the extent of public failure?
