OK, OK – see who is finally here! California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a self-proclaimed progress poster boy at Golden State University, has just declared a state of emergency to clear the flammable brushes from the state's forests. Why? Because President Donald Trump has always been right, and the news agency knows. Politico breaks the story, detailing how Newsom's dramatic move pauses California's sacred environmental regulations—the same rules on the left like safety blankets, while Wildfirers are year after year. It turns out that Trump has been sending an alarm for years and Sacramento finally listened.
Let's rewind the tape. Before his first term, Trump famously pointed out what any wise person could see: California's forest is a fire box waiting to be lit, choked with dead trees, and the state refuses to clear it. His solution? Manage the land – grab it, prune it, do something – point out let nature run wild under the guise of an eco-party. California Elite Response? Sneer and eye roll. “Raches in the forest? How simple!” They laughed, as if Trump suggested that fairy tale dust could solve the problem. Meanwhile, wildfires continued to burn, kill, and billions of dollars in losses piled up – the Los Angeles fires that occupied January are now regarded as the most expensive disaster in U.S. history.
Fast forward to today on March 3, 2025. Newsom's emergency order is not only a policy shift, but also a tacit recognition that Trump has been on the currency. The governor suspended the California Environmental Quality Act and Coastal Act, with bureaucratic behemoths Trump and his allies long accusing the state of tied hands. Newsom even responded to Trump's language, promising “fuel interruption” and “prescription fire” to protect vulnerable communities. Does it sound familiar? it should. Trump has been slamming this since at least 2018, when he first summoned California mismanagement, and despite the fact that more than half of the state’s forests are under federal control, his critics conveniently ignore his critics.
This is the time for kicker: Newsom is more transparent. As Trump returns to the White House, Republicans hold their wallets and provide nearly $40 billion in disaster aid to Los Angeles, the governor suddenly desires to play. Politico noted that Trump's visit to Los Angeles in January, where he slammed the California Coastal Commission as a nightmare – “the hardest thing in the whole country is.” Now Newsom has cut the same Red Ring rules to appease the government. coincide? Almost nothing. This is someone who knows that aid nails won't move unless he shows some spine in forest management.
Ironically, the smoke in Los Angeles is thicker. Newsom and his staff have insisted for years that they have been “soaring” their jobs since taking office in 2019. But here, the governor admits that it is not enough, and that is not enough – it is explicitly acknowledged that Trump’s criticism attacked cowhide. Even Trump’s envoy, Richard Grenell, was piled up, calling the Coastal Commission a “disaster” and suggesting aid for real reforms.
So let's lift the glass into common sense, at least so far. What California finally wakes up is that embracing trees won’t stop them from burning. Trump was proven that Newsom had eaten a humble pie, whether he admitted it or not. The only question left is how long it will take for eco-warriors to forgive their golden boy for this heresy. Something tells me they won't try too hard to get him on the coals, rather than having federal cash online.
