The Trump administration has raised logging quota by 25% in the U.S. national forests, part of increasing timber production when facing tariffs and preventing fires by removing fuel and causing fire-proof explosions. [emphasis, links added]

    this San Francisco Chronicles Report:

Amid moves that could reshape California’s natural landscape, the USDA issued an emergency order on Friday to accelerate the harvest of nearly 113 million acres of national forest.

The directive, announced by USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, calls for a 25% increase in national timber quotas, with special focus on areas in California, including Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Los Padres and Cleveland National Forest.

The order is part of a broader initiative targeting what the Trump administration calls the “forest health crisis.”

New orders have two purposes. One is to control fires.

President Donald Trump said in January The Los Angeles wildfires were partly the reason why California Governor Gavin Newsom refused to clean brushes and dead trees.

Another purpose, although not specified, is likely This could have a cascading impact on the U.S. construction industry due to tariffs on Canadian timber, which increased the supply of timber and increased potential prices.

Environmental groups have criticized the move, while the logging industry welcomes the Trump administration's decision.
