According to White House officials, the upcoming order will direct administration officials to reclassify coal into minerals under the terms of Executive Order 14241, which Trump signed in March to unlock and release the country's coal resources and take many other steps to promote the sick industry.
In recent years, coal production and its use to generate electricity have been largely attributed in the United States in recent years to the active regulations and climate policies of the Obama and Biden administrations.
The order will direct agencies to identify coal deposits on federally controlled land and will guide Home Secretary Doug Burgum to end the “jewelry suspension,” a suspension for the new federal coal rental sales first implemented by former Obama Home Secretary Sally Jewell.

The upcoming executive action will also direct the White House Committee on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to help other agencies implement the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) exclusion for coal-related projects and activities.
Other aspects of the executive order will include mobilizing the government to help find foreign buyers to export U.S. coal and promote coal-related technology development, According to White House officials.
A White House official said the expected growth in U.S. power demand driven by the expected artificial intelligence (AI) boom is the main motivation behind Tuesday’s executive order.
