Politico said European officials don't seem to be very concerned about the possibility that the mainland's green energy agenda might make it vulnerable to Chinese aggression in the future. [emphasis, links added]
Politico reported that Trump administration officials met with a group of European officials in Britain in early April to warn Europeans that China is using Western climate policies to achieve its own geopolitical goals.
Despite the Trump administration’s warnings and recent European experience relying on the energy of vicious actors, European officials mostly shrugged and showed that the continent still intends to make its energy system green in the long run.
“It’s no surprise that Europe has a hard time understanding the need to hub energy security and any serious sustainable approach to development,” Stephen Yates, a senior fellow at China and National Security Foundation, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“How does the increased dependence on the world’s leading polluting countries do anything for the planet, let alone their goals, whether we agree with them or not?”
As Yates suggests, China is the world's leading emitter to date and a highly productive pollutant in the ocean.
Meanwhile, China's green energy giants are accused of engaging in unfair or predatory trade strategies and benefiting from slave labor.
China dominates the global supply chain of green energy products, prompting some critics and analysts to warn for years West's commitment to a “zero net” carbon emission energy policy will make it more dependent on China over time.
It is worth noting that President Donald Trump directly warned European and German officials in 2018 (four years before Russia invaded Ukraine) that it would leave Europe, especially Germany, “captured by Russia.”
Tommy Joyce, acting assistant minister for international affairs at the Ministry of Energy (DOE), told representatives from 60 countries at the meeting Green energy authorization is a “harmful and dangerous” policy that will leave Europe vulnerable to “coercion against or from China” in the futureaccording to Politico.
Joyce argues further [against] “Put abstract emission targets and the interests of our opponents first, while the safety of our people continues.”
According to Politico, the audience of Joyce's speech was reportedly silent after his speech ended, according to Politico.
A European official told the media that Joyce's speech was “embarrassing but unanimous” acceptance was “speaking”.
U.S. officials continued to emphasize the same message at closed-door meetings at the summit, while the U.S. is more reliable than China, but their selling points are mostly ignored, believing that they are in touch with European officials in the spirit of collaboration with the activities.
Meanwhile, European officials said most of the summit that the energy of the continent will be led by green energy in the future, rather than exchanging Russian imports for US importsaccording to Politico.
