Even in the war, Ukrainian students are taking action for climate change.
KACHUR: “If you want to see the future of any country, we can look at their youth. I am proud of my youth.”
Vladyslav Kachur is a teacher in Vinnytsia. Every year, his students participate in the Climate Action Program, a program of Global Action by nonprofits.
This is a free six-week course that is open to courses around the world. Students understand the causes and effects of climate change. They work in community solutions.
This year, Kachur students planted trees and launched a campaign to remind people to save energy and water.
Through this program, they share their knowledge with other students in the world.
Kachur: “This year, my students have had virtual interactions with students from Dubai, Israel, Sierra Leone, for example, from India and other countries.”
He specifically said that now, when the country participates in the war, his students play an important role in representing Ukraine.
Kachur: “They are the voice of Ukraine at the international level. … They always tell me that the most valuable thing for them is to understand that they are part of this global community and hear them.”
