Zero-local fanatics hope to force a global renewable energy transition. But they don't always go. Their fantasy projects have been blocked over 1,000 times worldwide. This is gratifying news in a seemingly angry world. [emphasis, links added]
“Currently, the total number of Alt-Energy rejects or limits exceeds 1,000,” said energy author Robert Bryce.
Add them to others around the world, with a total of more than a grand place.
“Reject to keep coming,” Bryce said. “Since early May, a provincial government in Queensland has rejected a huge wind project, an Illinois county council soared a solar project, and a district council in East Devon (England) has rejected a battery project.”
According to Bryce, 142 responses were reported when officials asked residents to comment on the proposed $1 billion, 450 MW wind project, including battery storage in Queensland, Australia.
Local officials in Illinois have turned down plans for solar projects in New Lenox Town, about 40 miles southwest of Chicago, while East Devon County Council has expressed negatives on lithium battery storage farms.
“These refusals do not fit in the narratives that climate activists and their numerous allies in traditional media about the 'green' energy,” Bryce said.
“But the numbers are real, the numbers are growing, and provide irrefutable evidence that land use conflicts are a constraint on alternative physical growth.”
Although it is hyped as an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels and nuclear energy, renewable energy has no harmonious relationship with nature.
Wind and solar projects destroy animal habitats and require deforestation, transforming farms and pristine open fields into industrial areas.
When solar farms are located in the desert, away from population centers and human activities, they destroy the shells that bind the soil and absorb carbon dioxide. Offshore wind development has interfered with coastal marine ecosystems.
Due to its low energy density, renewable energy is also trampling on a huge land footprint.
