In the leadership of hurricane season, we ask you to donate to support our reporting on hurricanes, heat waves, wildfires and other life-threatening extreme weather events. Our goal is to raise at least $10,000. You crushed this goal, guys: Nearly 400 people stepped up to help, contributing $37,000!
This means:
- If a hurricane threatens our shores this summer and fall, you can come here to gain coverage you trust.
- We'll be here to help you understand the situation of FEMA, NOAA and other agencies under the Trump administration.
- We are able to keep our community alerts more secure on extreme weather roads (whether in English or Spanish).
The support of our audiences goes beyond our wildest dreams and gives us confidence that our reports resonate with people in the media landscape, increasingly affected by false information. You built this and it’s a pleasure to work with our donors to create a more active climate-aware world.
Here's the news that really powers: the median is $50, and 84% of donations are below $100. Multiply the number of our ongoing supporters per month by six, which helps us plan to reach and retain superstar writers. We are very grateful to all those who signed up to maintain donors. Will you join them?
Personally, we've been reading your comments in Disqus, Bluesky, emails and mailings, and we've found them incredible during this dark time.
One commenter wrote: “Such insightful information comes from being part of this group, hopefully more!”
Another wrote: “Creating and maintaining a powerful website like this takes money and time. It takes money and time to research, compile, write, edit, edit and publish new content of the types needed to make this blog viable and timely,” the person said. “Maybe think of skipping this month's Twitch subscription or this week's Thursday morning Venti latte and throwing some money into the YCC pot. It would be very thankful and it will make everyone, including me, and most importantly, it will benefit you.”
We hope the success of this sport can also help you remember that people across the country believe in and support climate news. At present, our collective strength is very important.
During our May campaign, donors came from 35 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Outside the United States, our donors come from 10 countries, including Canada, the Bahamas and Germany.
