It’s time to start checking the weather forecast for your Memorial Day weekend plans, as the Fox Forecast Center has some good news for much of the United States, including much of the Eastern and Western United States.
The forecast for the unofficial start of summer is especially important for the 43.8 million Americans who AAA expects to travel 50 or more miles.
Here's a preliminary preview of the 2024 Memorial Day forecast by region:
Rain likely in Northeast on Memorial Day
Temperatures will be mild across the Northeast over the Memorial Day weekend. However, rain chances increase Monday in cities across the region, including Boston, Washington, D.C., New York and Burlington.
New York is expected to get a little cooler this past Memorial Day, with weekend temperatures expected to be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
The Southeast is still hot
Hot temperatures are expected to remain steady across the Southeast, so it's a good idea to include a beach or pool in your weekend getaway plans.
The current hot weather in Florida and Georgia will continue into next weekend.
More 90-degree weather is expected in Miami and Jacksonville. Meanwhile, temperatures in Atlanta will reach the mid-80s over the weekend.
Rain is possible in the Gulf States and South Carolina on Monday.
Central U.S. could face stormy weather again
As April and May storms continue to roll through America's heartland, have a backup plan for your outdoor grill.
Another round of severe weather is heading into the central United States before next weekend, potentially bringing extreme wind gusts and hail the size of baseballs. The threat continues from the Plains to the Midwest through at least Tuesday.
A blast of cooler air will keep temperatures feeling spring-like by the end of the work week, with a chance of rain.

Fox Forecast Center is tracking weather patterns supporting more severe storms that are bringing tornadoes, huge hail and more damaging weather to parts of the central United States
Major cities with possible thunderstorms on May 25 include Denver, St. Louis and Chicago.
Chicago experienced some extreme weather this past Memorial Day weekend, with highs reaching 95 degrees in 2018 and 2012.
Western Moderate Memorial Day
Western states are more likely to experience spring temperatures than summer temperatures over the holiday weekend. Thankfully, there's little chance of rain or snow in the area.
How to watch Fox Weather
People in Southern California and New Mexico are in for a great weekend.
The Northwest may be one of the few areas to avoid showers during the Memorial Day holiday. Boise, Idaho, and Billings, Montana can expect sunny skies and warm temperatures.
