We are entering the hottest time of the year, but thankfully Mother Nature has other plans!
Quick note:
- Rain will be on and off today, mainly along and south of Interstate 20
- The weather this week is unsettled, with rain possible every day and below-normal temperatures
- Typical summer heat will return next week
Monday evening to evening
First, there is a low chance of a severe storm, but any storm will bring heavy rain and lightning. Heavy rain may cause some flooding issues in places where thunderstorms won't go away anytime soon.
The DFW area will see some pop-up showers and storms, but not everyone will see them. If you find yourself in a storm, expect heavy rain and lightning. Most storms only last 20-45 minutes at any one location. However, a longer duration could result in flooding in some locations.
Most activity will disappear as daytime heat dissipates tonight into tonight. Drought conditions are expected across nearly all of North Texas by Tuesday morning.
below normal temperature
Since July 17th, summer high temperatures in DFW have been below normal, with only a few days in the 80s! We're officially entering the (usually) hottest days of the year. Tuesday's normal high temperature will climb to 97 degrees, the hottest temperature of the year, and will last until August 15th.
Afternoon temperatures the rest of the week into the weekend won't be cold by any means, but will continue to be below normal, mostly in the 90s.
Chances of rainfall will continue
There's definitely no full-day rain in North Texas for the rest of the week, but scattered to sporadic rain is possible this weekend. The highest coverage areas appear to be south/southeast North Texas, with lower coverage in the north/northwest areas.
By the end of next week, rainfall totals will be around 0.01-0.25 inches in the north and 1-3 inches in the south. The threat of severe weather remains low, but heavy rain could result in an isolated threat of flooding.
