A completely ridiculous new report:
London must be better prepared for severe flooding and heatwaves, a report has warned.
The London Climate Resilience Review, released on Wednesday, calls for a “reset moment” for the capital after the election.
Review chair Emma Howard Boyd CBE said preparing London for more frequent and extreme climate risks was “non-negotiable”. The report highlights investment opportunities in London but warns that time is running out to take action on climate change.
A government spokesman said it welcomed the review and understood the “urgent need” to prepare and adapt to changes brought about by the climate emergency.
The review said that in July 2022, temperatures in London reached 40°C, water consumption increased by 50%, and reservoirs were at their lowest levels in 30 years. Wildfires push London fire brigade to the limit.
It recommended the creation of an official heat plan for London to make the city better prepared to deal with severe flooding and heatwaves.
The independent report, commissioned by the Mayor of London, examines London's preparedness for heatwaves, floods, droughts, wildfires, storms, sea level rise and subsidence.
The report also found that governments and businesses did not adequately plan for the “cascading” impacts of severe weather on critical systems such as healthcare, transportation, energy and water.

.
This report has only one goal, and that is to scare the public into accepting “net zero” at all costs.
Emma Howard-Boyd has long been a leading member of the climate establishment, so expecting an honest, accurate and realistic assessment would be wishful thinking given her background

They might as well choose John Gummer or Chris Skidmore!
Where is the evidence that anything they highlight is actually happening and getting worse? Floods, droughts, wildfires, storms or rising sea levels? No service was provided as the situation didn't get any worse. All they have is some hot weather to scaremonger, but where is the climate plan for cold weather – after all, ice and snow cause far more problems for London than sunshine!
As for subsidence, what does this have to do with climate? Increased water extraction could be an issue, but it depends on demand.
For example, look at rainfall. Radcliffe Observatory in Oxford has a long record of floods and droughts that occurred in the Thames Valley.
Summer half-year rainfall shows no long-term trend at all. The droughts of the past few years have indeed been much worse, and apart from the infamous summer of 2012, there haven't been excessively wet conditions in many years.
As for extreme rainfall, Oxford's wettest days occurred in the 20th century. The data clearly shows that there is no evidence that rainfall is becoming more extreme, as the report pretends:

Monthly rainfall doesn't get more extreme either:
The Met Office has acknowledged that storms in the 1980s and 1990s were more severe and that sea levels on the east coast have been rising at the same rate since the end of the Little Ice Age in the late 19th century. In the past 50 years, the annual rise rate has been only 1.67 mm:

This fake report has nothing to do with the facts. This is a blatant political act designed to scare the public.
