The body of Chief Seaman Sitendra Singh of the Indian Navy's multi-purpose frigate Brahmaputra, which went missing after a fire broke out at a Mumbai shipyard on Sunday, was found on Wednesday after intensive diving operations. Official news released by the Indian Navy on Monday stated that “On the evening of July 21, a fire broke out on the Indian Navy's multi-purpose frigate Brahmaputra while being refitted at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard.” The U.S. Navy said that a fire broke out at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard and With the help of firefighters from a neighboring vessel, the crew was able to control the blaze on Monday morning.
Following the unfortunate incident, CNS Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi visited Mumbai on Wednesday and reviewed the chain of events leading up to the accident. CNS was briefed on the mitigation measures to limit the extent of damage, recovery plans and repairs to restore the ship's functionality as early as possible. He directed the command and naval headquarters to take all immediate actions to make the aircraft carrier Brahmaputra seaworthy and combat ready.
CNS, while interacting with the crew of the aircraft carrier INS Brahmaputra, exhorted the crew to work towards the early commissioning of the ship in the true spirit of the Indian Navy.
