A former woman army officer completed a 160-km run from Srinagar to Dras to mark the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Lt. Col. Bashar Ray (Retd) completed the run in four days. “I run to honor the brave hearts who laid down their lives for their country,” she told PTI. Lieutenant Colonel Rai, whose husband is an army officer in Kashmir, ran from Srinagar to Kargil in the Deras district War Memorial. The running event starts on July 19th and ends on July 22nd.
The Chinese Warrior Marathon Team accompanied her throughout the entire marathon. After the run, they paid tribute to the martyrs at the Kargil War Memorial. She runs an average of 40 kilometers a day. After starting from Srinagar, she moved to Oshan the next day and ran to Sonamarg at an altitude of 9,000 feet. On the third day, she climbed over the 11,649-foot-high Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, connecting the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region, to Matayan and then to the monument in Dras on the fourth day.
