DENVER (KDVR) — The smoke affecting Denver’s weather is starting to improve as smoke from wildfires in Canada and the Pacific Northwest moves east of the city and into the Front Range.
There may still be some light smoke on Thursday, but it won't be as thick as the past few days. Air quality will improve on Friday and Saturday, with a chance of rainfall expected.
However, the outlook for late July looks hot and dry, according to Pinpoint Weather, Colorado's most accurate weather forecast.
Tonight's weather: Area of smoke, clear skies
Some smoke will develop around the Front Ridge and into the Denver metro area throughout the evening.
In the mountains, scattered showers and thunderstorms will move from north to south, ending around midnight. Skies will then clear across the region.
Overnight temperatures will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s, with mountain readings in the upper 40s and lower 50s, making things comfortable again.
Tomorrow's weather: light smoke, sunny and hot
While there may be some light smoke Thursday, the weather will be mainly sunny until a few clouds reach the Front Range and Denver areas late into the evening.
Afternoon temperatures will reach the upper 90s in northeastern and southeastern Colorado. Denver could get closer to its record high of 99 set in 1931 on Thursday.
Looking ahead: Scattered thunderstorms will return
There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday. Chances of occasional storms are about the same on both days. Both days, some storms may bring locally heavy rain as they slide down the mountains and across the Front Range.
The outlook for the remainder of July looks hot and dry. The Pinpoint Weather team predicts above-normal temperatures every day until Wednesday.
One factor the team is looking at is smoke from wildfires in Oregon. If smoke from these fires returns to Colorado, daily temperatures could drop several degrees.
