Search and rescue operation underway after water enters basement of coaching academy in Old Rajender Nagar
Two students were said to have died due to flooding in the basement of the IAS Training Institute in Old Rajender Nagar on Saturday. More students were reportedly trapped in the basement. Water is pumped out of the basement through a motor. Police sources said the whereabouts of the three students were unknown and the search was ongoing. Two bodies have been recovered, both female.
Video from the scene showed that the basement of the Lau IAS research circle was flooded. At 7:19 pm on Saturday, the fire brigade received a call that students were trapped in the basement, and immediately dispatched five fire trucks to the rescue. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also at the scene.

“Search and rescue operations are underway after water entered the basement of the coaching college in Old Rajyad Nagar. It is feared that several students are trapped,” the Delhi Fire Service said in a statement.
DCP Central M Harshavardhan said, “At 7:00 pm, we received information that the basement of the USPC Coaching Academy in Rajender Nagar has been flooded and people may be trapped. Tonight, due to heavy rain, there is waterlogging on the roads. We are Investigating how the entire basement got flooded. It seems that the basement got flooded very quickly and some people were trapped in the basement. Search and rescue operations are on at the scene with the Delhi Fire Department and NDRF rescue teams… Currently, they have been fished out. The body of a female student…”

Delhi Water Minister Atish assured that “whoever is responsible for this incident will not be spared.”
“There are reports of accidents in Delhi due to heavy rains in the evening. Sources say that water is being filled in the basement of a coaching college in Rajendra Nagar. Delhi Fire Service and NDRF are at the scene. Mayor of Delhi and local MLAs Also present. I will be updated on the incident every minute. A magistrate has been ordered to investigate how this incident occurred. Whoever is responsible for this incident will not be spared…” She wrote in an X the post read.
Delhi Minister Atish has directed the Chief Secretary to initiate a judicial inquiry and provide a report on the incident within 24 hours.
