Philadelphia (WPVI) — The weekend got off to a great start in Philadelphia on Saturday night, with low humidity and moderate temperatures bringing the whole family to Eakins Oval.
“I came out to take my grandkids out and enjoy the weather,” said Eileen Godfrey of Beertown.
The kids went out to play and luckily didn't break a sweat.
“It was a great night, we're big fans of the oval. We played nine holes of mini golf and it was great to be with everyone,” explained Mount Airy's Patrick Morgan.
The family said the weather was too nice to spend the night indoors.
Music, games and food take over Saturday snack time at the Oval. This is part of a partnership with The Oval and Parkway Council.
“Tonight we have a really great band from New Richmond, New York called Love Club, they are great DJs. Next Saturday we have a band playing jazz swing,” Snacktime co-founder Sam Gellersteim said.
The concert series, which runs through August 24, will feature Philadelphia's favorite snack hour.
Snacktime co-founder Ben Stocker said: “Tonight we heard disco, jazz bands, hip-hop, different types of music. It was great to come out and enjoy the food and drinks while the kids played.”
This is something the family appreciates and plans to return to enjoy everything the Oval has to offer.
“I think it's great, it's free, it's fun and it's high quality. I hope the city continues to do this until I have another grandchild,” Godfrey said.
A different artist will appear every Saturday, ending the series with snack time.
Families hope the city continues the initiative next summer.
