Barker's bronze ends India's 12-year wait for a shooting medal since Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar's success at London 2012
President Drupadi Murmu on Sunday congratulated Manu Bakker for winning bronze in the 10m air pistol event at the Paris Olympics, India's first medal in the Olympic shooting event.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar congratulated Bhakar on his win and said, “Congratulations to Manu Bhaker for winning the Bronze Medal in the #ParisOlympics2024 10m Air Pistol Shooting Competition. She not only opened the medal tally for India in Paris but also became the first to win the Olympic shooting event Indian women with medals.
“Manu Bhakar's achievement will inspire countless young girls who aspire to hoist the Bharat Tricolor on the #Olympic podium,” Dhankar added.

Barker's bronze ended India's 12-year wait for a shooting medal since Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar's success at the 2012 London Olympics.
Prime Minister Modi also praised Barker, pointing out her historic achievements. Posting ” For what an incredible achievement she became the first woman to win a shooting medal for India!
With this medal, 22-year-old Barker becomes the fifth Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal, joining RVS Rathore (2004), Abhinav Bindra (2008), Gagan Narang (2012) and Vijay Kumar (2012) . This takes India's total number of medals in Olympic shooting events to five – one gold, two silver and two bronze.
