A gradual warming trend will begin today, peaking around mid-week with the potential for dangerously high temperatures.
Sunday weather forecast
Temperatures on Sunday will be warmer than Saturday. Highs will top out in the mid-80s, with a chance of isolated thundershowers in the afternoon.
However, your best chance of seeing the storm is overnight tonight into early Monday morning. The best chance of seeing these storms will be along and north of Interstate 70 with heavy downpours.
Looking to the future
Late Monday morning we cleaned things up and said hello to the sun again. This, coupled with southerly surface airflow, will help lift temperatures into the mid-90s, with heat index values in the 100-105 range.
Tuesday and Wednesday both look to be the hottest days of the week, with highs in the mid-90s and heat index values approaching 105 and above.
Heat warnings and extreme heat warnings will be in effect Monday afternoon through Thursday night due to the longer duration and intensity of the heat.
A cold front will eventually move through Thursday into Friday, which should help temperatures drop slightly to near average to end the week.
