MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – Colorado has released its third outlook for the 2024 hurricane season.
The latest outlook remains consistent with the original outlook released in April. Colorado is calling for 25 named storms, 12 hurricanes and six major hurricanes.
April saw 23 named storms, 11 hurricanes and five major hurricanes in Colorado, making it the most aggressive forecast ever.
The average hurricane season typically produces 14 named storms, including seven hurricanes, three of which are Category 3 or higher.
The combination of record warm Atlantic water temperatures and the incoming La Niña weather pattern resulted in the highest numbers ever recorded.
So far this year, we’ve crossed out three names: Alberto, Beryl and Chris. Beryl was the first hurricane of the season to reach Category 5 intensity and broke several records starting in July.
Thankfully, our forecast is for calm conditions in the tropics over the next seven days. Colorado will release another updated outlook on August 6.
