The Chicago area will see a lot of unsettled weather over the next few days, with hot and humid conditions and severe thunderstorms expected.
Temperatures will average around 80 degrees in the Chicago area on Sunday, but there will be a chance of rain a few times during the day. While no severe weather is expected, some showers and storms could produce locally heavy rain, causing isolated flash flooding in the area.
After a night of humid weather and temperatures in the 70s, early morning could bring showers to the area, especially in Chicago's western suburbs. These showers may affect the morning commute, but are a precursor to the main action Monday night.
According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, severe thunderstorms may develop and sweep across the region Monday night, bringing with them a variety of severe storm threats.
These could include damaging wind gusts, hail and heavy rain, with the possibility of tornadoes also expected.
The Storm Prediction Center currently lists the Chicago area as having a “marginal” risk of severe weather, the first of five tiers, but that risk could rise as the system develops, officials warned.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s on Monday, but will rise into the mid-90s on Tuesday and Wednesday. Humidity will also rise during these days, with heat indexes reaching into the 90s and a daily threat of showers and storms.
The Chicago area will again face a “marginal” risk of severe storms on Tuesday, according to SPC officials.
The chance of continued rainfall may decrease through Thursday, according to extended forecast models.
