LANSING, Miss. (WLNS) – While the weather is calm this morning, we will transition to a more active weather pattern this afternoon and evening that will bring hot, humid conditions and the potential for showers and storms throughout the day.
This morning a high pressure system brought a multi-day period of quiet and dry conditions that will remain under control for a while and we will continue to see mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. The clouds will move in heading into this afternoon and we will continue to see these clouds as we start the work week. Temperatures drop slightly into the low 60s tonight and the humidity is lingering, so air conditioning will be needed again tonight. We also have a chance for an isolated shower mainly to the south and west of the Lansing area.
The last week of July and early August will bring hot and humid weather, with sudden showers and storms possible every day. There will be plenty of drying time this week, but with dew points in the upper 60s to lower 70s, there's plenty of moisture to take advantage of, meaning there's a chance of locally heavy rainfall wherever storms develop.
Highs will be in the mid-80s throughout Sunday, with a high probability of reaching 90 degrees by mid-week. Dew points this week will be in the low to mid 70s, which will give us a very humid, almost miserable tropical feel in the air. While we may not see temperatures in the 90s during the work week, it will definitely feel like temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s!
As mentioned earlier, this will not be a washout of rain, but rather a sudden occurrence of rain in nature. Going into next weekend, we have the potential to see plenty of sunshine and comfortable conditions with lower humidity.
