There will be showers and storms in the viewing area today. Rainfall will drop sharply on Monday and much of next week.
Today and tonight: More storms are expected this afternoon and evening. Just like yesterday, it won't rain for everyone, but it will for about half of the viewing area. If you find yourself in one of these thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and lots of lightning are possible. The high will be near 93 degrees, with partly cloudy skies in the afternoon and evening. Tonight, skies will be partly clear with lows in the upper 70s.
Next: An upper-level ridge of high pressure will dominate the area next week. Dry air is also filtered in. These two factors combine to keep afternoon storms scattered and even isolated. Some days may be drier than others. As of now, Tuesday and Wednesday look like those days. As rainfall decreases, the most important thing will become the heat. Likely mid to upper 90s all week. Heat alerts may eventually become the norm again.
Tropical areas: An area of weather disturbance in the central tropical Atlantic is expected to interact with approaching tropical waves over the next few days. Environmental conditions are expected to become favorable for some development within a day or two, with a tropical depression likely to form around mid-week when the system is near or over the northern Leeward Islands, Greater Antilles, or southwest Atlantic Ocean.
