What's the weather forecast for this week in the Hagerstown and Greencastle, PA areas?
National Weather Service meteorologists said Monday that humidity will return this week, with rain also possible on Tuesday and into the weekend.
Heat advisories are most likely to be issued on Thursday and Friday, when the heat index is likely to be at least close to 100 degrees, according to National Weather Service meteorologists at the Baltimore/Washington and Penn State College forecast offices.
Brendon Rubin-Oster, a meteorologist with the Baltimore/Washington Forecast Office, said Monday that the Hagerstown area could see a heat index near 100 to 103 degrees later this week.
Humidity isn't expected to be too high, but it could be noticeably muggy starting Tuesday and continuing into the weekend, said John Bahnhoff, a meteorologist with the State College Forecast Office.
Nights won't bring much relief, with temperatures expected to be in the mid-70s every night this week.
While Tuesday and Saturday look like the best chances for showers and thunderstorms, there's a chance for widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons most of the week, Bahnhoff said.
Last week, the Maryland Department of Environment declared Washington County under a drought watch.
As of Monday, much of Washington County and southwestern Franklin County are experiencing severe drought, according to Drought.gov. The southern tip of Washington County is in the midst of an extreme drought.
