After nearly two weeks of heavy rains, Mumbai and the metropolitan region had gloomy skies on Tuesday. Last week, several locations in Mumbai and MMR experienced waterlogging and rail traffic was delayed due to heavy downpour.
In its latest Mumbai weather update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the city and suburbs will witness mostly cloudy skies with the possibility of moderate rain in the next 24 hours.
“The sky will be generally cloudy with moderate rain likely in cities and suburbs,” the weather agency said. IMD further added in a weather update that the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 29 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Mumbai, has issued a yellow alert for Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts, while no alert has been issued for Mumbai and Palghar.
According to IMD's Mumbai weather update, the Colaba observatory recorded 1,882 mm rainfall since June 1, while the Santacruz observatory recorded 2,012.5 mm rainfall during the same period.
High wave warning in effect along the Thain coast from Tongi Point to Belapur, a suburb of Mumbai, Maharashtra. IMD said on Monday that high waves of 3.5 – 3.7 meters are expected until 05:30 on July 30, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said a high tide of 3.24 meters is expected to occur off the city's coast at around 6.56 pm on Tuesday.
In a Mumbai weather update, the civic body said that the island city recorded 11 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours to 8 am, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 22 mm and 11 mm of rainfall respectively.
Mumbai Weather Updates: Traffic Updates
There was no traffic jam except for scheduled diversions due to events near Nehru Planetarium. Ordinary trains on various corridors of the China-Western Railway are running smoothly. BEST also did not report any diversions on Tuesday, except those announced for the event at Nehru Planetarium.
