Today, the extreme heat is only going to get more extreme as temperatures rise a few degrees while humidity remains the same. Today and tomorrow, more of the state will be under heat warnings, not just heat warnings.
The National Weather Service issues heat warnings when the heat index is expected to be 105-110°. Heat warnings are issued when the heat index is expected to exceed 110°.
Thursday night and Friday morning will bring light showers and thunderstorms Friday night as a cold front moves through the state. The front will move through central Arkansas until the end of Friday afternoon. Therefore, Friday will likely be the hottest day of the week, thanks to forehead compression heating from the air being compressed ahead of the cold front, causing the air to warm up.
After some relief this weekend, extreme and dangerous heat will return next week.
