The Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday expelled eight leaders, including former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra and former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, who had rebelled against party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Shiromani Akali Dal's disciplinary committee took serious note of “anti-party activities” under “conspiracy” by some senior leaders and removed Chandhumajra, Kaul and former MP Gurpatta, the statement said Principle Membership of P. Singh Wadala.
The party also expelled Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Sikandar Singh Maluka, Surjit Singh Rakhra, Surinder Singh Thekedar and Charanjit Singh Brar.
The disciplinary committee is headed by senior leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar.
After lengthy discussions, the committee concluded that the actions of these leaders tarnished the image of the party.
Last month, a section of senior leaders launched a revolt against Badal, demanding that he resign as party president after Shiromani Akali Dal's impressive performance in the Punjab Lok Sabha elections.
Notable figures who rebelled against Badal include Chandumajra, Kaur and Wadala, former ministers Maluka, Dhindsa, Rakhra and Sarwan Singh Phillaur, as well as party leader Sucha Singh Chhotepur.
