Jammu and Kashmir will soon have young forces to deal with terrorism more effectively.
According to a senior home ministry official, the government has initiated the process of recruitment and creation of new posts in the two major forces – BSF and CRPF. The plan is to incorporate younger troops into these units up to the ground commander level, which will change the entire deployment structure and make the troops younger.
The Border Security Force (BSF), which is mainly deployed on the India-Pakistan border, has created 7,210 positions this year, mainly composed of B- and C-level officers. Assistant commander-level officers have also been recruited.
Similarly, 11,000 posts, including the post of Assistant Commander, will be filled in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). These vacancies will primarily address the needs of young officers deployed in elite forces as well as in tense areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The idea is to have young commanders on the ground executing operations and supervising a group of young troops with high physical fitness. This will revolutionize the overall structure of the force overseen by mature senior leadership. CRPF and BSF will also be recruited separately this year More than 100 officials,” a senior government official familiar with the development told News18.
The Central Armed Police Force plans to create 506 assistant commanders. Of these, BSF will fill 186 vacancies while CRPF will recruit 120 assistant commanders who will undergo rigorous training. As Nazism has been reduced by nearly 70%, the CRPF will mainly deploy these young recruits in Jammu and Kashmir, with some joining the VVIP security force.

The Central Reserve Police Force is already facing an acute shortage of young officers and troops. Therefore, the force has increased the age limit for joining elite units like anti-Naxal force CoBRA. The top-level joint meeting also raised the issue of the aging of commanders.
